What is your current role at Hand in Hand?

I’m a Lead Direct Support Professional for our After School Club. I’m also a caregiver in our adult day program, People with Purpose as well as a a camp leader during the summer. I assist in creating a supportive, fun, and engaging environment for campers, focusing on building meaningful relationships and fostering growth.

Can you tell us a little about your background and journey to your current role?

I’ve worked in various roles supporting individuals with disabilities—from running after-school programs and summer camps. My passion for this field grew through hands-on experience, and Hand in Hand stood out as a place where I could make a real impact while continuing to learn and grow.

What do you enjoy most about your work here?

The connections. Watching campers light up with joy or achieve something new—those moments are the most rewarding. It’s also the supportive environment Hand in Hand cultivates that keeps me coming back.

Could you share a memorable experience or accomplishment from your time with us?

One camper, who rarely communicated, gave me a fist bump at the end of a tough but fun day. It was small, but in that context, it felt huge—like a quiet “thank you” that spoke volumes.

How do you approach challenges in your role?

Patience, creativity, and a sense of humor. I try to break things down, stay flexible, and remind myself that even small progress is still progress.

Outside of work, what are some of your hobbies or interests?

I enjoy playing basketball and finding new music. I’m also into mentoring and volunteering in the community with my son.

Who or what motivates you to do your best every day?

Whether it is my son, a camper, coworker, or family member, knowing that what I do matters to someone else is my biggest motivator.
