In July, Hand in Hand achieved their Iowa Quality for Kids (IQ4K®) rating. Their childcare program at Tessa's Place has recently been awarded a Level 4 rating from IQ4K. This prestigious recognition reflects their commitment to providing exceptional care and education for Quad Cities children.

Iowa’s Quality Rating System, known as IQ4K, is a voluntary program that assesses and rates childcare centers based on their quality of care and education. The system has five levels, with Level 1 indicating that a center meets the basic licensing requirements, and Level 5 representing the highest standard of excellence.

Hand in Hand has been improving their quality while progressing through the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) process for IQ4K. By participating in IQ4K®, programs can assess their current programming across all areas and devise a structured plan to increase the overall level of program quality. Programs make improvements in the following areas: health & safety, environment, professional development, family & community partnerships, and leadership & administration.

“We are proud to announce that Hand in Hand is the very first center in the city of Bettendorf to receive any quality rating from IQ4K. This milestone is a significant achievement, and we are honored to be pioneers in our community. Additionally, we are one of only three centers in Scott County to have achieved a 4-star rating, placing us among the highest quality childcare providers in the area,” said Angie Kendall, CEO of Hand in Hand.

The organization worked on staff qualifications and training, ensuring staff have the necessary education and ongoing professional development to provide high-quality care and education. They implemented evidence-based practices and curricula that promote the cognitive, social, and emotional development of children. They maintained rigorous health and safety protocols to create a secure and nurturing environment. The organization engaged families and the community in meaningful ways to support the holistic development of children. They also demonstrated strong leadership, management, and business practices to ensure the sustainability and quality of their programs.

“While we celebrate our Level 4 rating, we are already looking ahead. There is currently only one 5-star center in the entire state of Iowa, and our next goal is to join them! We are committed to continually improving our programs and services to provide the highest quality of care and education for your children. Achieving a 5-star rating will further solidify our dedication to excellence and our role as leaders in early childhood education,” said Kendall.

IQ4K is a voluntary program that is available to child care programs that are registered or licensed with the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services. A monetary bonus is given to child care programs that achieve IQ4K levels. Child Care Centers and Preschools, Child Development Homes, and School-Age Programs are encouraged to apply. Child Care Resource and Referral can assist those interested. Local Child Care Consultants will be available to answer questions and assist programs in the application process.
