Join Us for a Community Town Hall on Nonprofit Shared Spaces
We Need Your Ideas and Feedback!
Amazing things happen when people come together, share ideas, and turn a vision into reality. That’s why Family Resources, Hand in Hand, and Empower House—together with the support of an advisory committee and national experts from Community Spaces—are inviting you to a special town hall. We want your input as we further explore one of the many innovative ways nonprofits can work together in the Quad Cities area.
As we embark on this journey, we also want to acknowledge and honor the nonprofit centers and partnerships that are already making a significant impact on our community. Our local nonprofits have a strong history of working together, and this spirit of collaboration makes exploring social purpose real estate (SPRE) a natural extension of the incredible work already happening in the Quad Cities. We look forward to learning from local successes, strengthening our partnerships, and growing alongside them as we work toward our shared mission of serving the people of our community.
This is an exciting opportunity to help us imagine the future of SPRE—a model where nonprofit organizations collaborate under one roof, reducing costs and increasing their impact on the community.
What is Social Purpose Real Estate?
Social purpose real estate (SPRE) brings multiple nonprofit organizations together in shared spaces to:
- Increase collaboration and innovation
- Focus resources on mission-driven activities
- Provide greater access to quality services
- Build organizational capacity and resilience
- Reduce operational risks and costs
Communities across the U.S. and Canada have developed these types of nonprofit centers with great success. During this town hall, we will discuss the possibilities for creating a similar model that meets the unique needs of our community. You can see some examples of this model in action: Al Sigl in Rochester New York, The Collective in Watertown, WI, Serve Denton in Denton, TX, Ascend NonProfit Solutions in Charlotte
You can also download more information about this field here (email required).
Background on This Initiative in the Quad Cities
With generous funding from The Better Health Foundation, along with support from the Doris and Victor Day Foundation, Quad City Bank & Trust, Heidi Huiskamp-Collins, and the Quad Cities Community Foundation, we are embarking on a journey to investigate the potential of creating a nonprofit center right here in the Quad Cities. Our goal is to learn from successful models around our community and throughout the country, understanding how shared spaces can help local nonprofits better serve our community.
While this town hall is a fact-finding and information-gathering session—not a plan-making event—it’s part of a formal process that could enhance and expand how nonprofits can further collaborate and deliver services. Your feedback will help us understand the needs, concerns, and ideas of the people who live and work here.
