Transportation Troubleshooting
Transportation. Ooph, that can seem daunting to many. Getting from one place to another, no matter the distance, can sometimes be a real hassle. But we have to do it. We have appointments we have to keep, jobs to go to, groceries to buy, and you know- sometimes it’s just nice to get out of the house for a bit!
It’s the getting from point A to point B that can sometimes be an issue. Will the public transportation be accessible enough? I need to get to work, but my child needs a ride to school! Do I need to worry about road and traffic conditions? What if I need someone to assist me and they aren’t available? Luckily there are now several resources in our area that are available!!
Tots to Teen Transport
Tots to Teen Transport is a transportation service based in Davenport that specifically caters to children 3 to 18 years of age! The organization understands that often parents have hectic and busy schedules and need some reliable help making sure that their children make it to school, daycare, or various activities on time. They also offer sick child pickup, field trip shuttles, special weekend rates, and more! They shuttle in and around the entire Quad City area, and the best news is that their rates are quite affordable. For more information head to their site to find out how to register and set up a schedule.
Metro-Link
Good ol’ Metro! ADA compliant and very affordable, the Quad Cities has an amazing public transit system with Metro-Link. All the Metro buses are equipped with ramps, and have generous space allowing for wheelchairs. While Metro runs a fixed-route service mainly, they understand the need of individuals who may have disabilities. In cases such as these Metro-Link has a paratransit service you can look in to, offering individualized rides without fixed routes or timetable/scheduled stops.
River Bend Transit
River Bend Transit is the regional public transit agency for Cedar, Clinton, Muscatine and Scott counties and is open to the general public, including those with disabilities. River Bend Transit provides transportation for people with physical and mental disabilities who live within the city limits of Davenport and Bettendorf in accordance with the American’s with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA eligible). RBT vehicles are fully equipped with lifts or ramps to assist entry, and are operated by courteous, experienced drivers who specialize in serving people with disabilities.
