PWP Community Partner Spotlight: Quad City Botanical Center

Volunteering is a core part of the People with Purpose program. Participants gain social engagement while getting involved with the Quad Cities community and volunteering at a variety of area charities and organizations.

The program fills the gap left after high school for young adults with disabilities, providing participants will opportunities five days a week to be social, have fun, learn new skills, and make a positive impact on their community.

The Quad City Botanical Center has been a partner with People with Purpose for over 5 years now. The group helps with a lot of tasks at the Center including cleaning up the Sun Garden, preparing craft materials, helping plant the ability garden, helping clean up the outdoor gardens, and more.

“People with Purpose have been a great help to us over the years,” said Volunteer and Guest Services Coordinator, Amelia Seutter. “There is always work that needs to be done around here and we are very happy that People with Purpose always lend a helping hand. It is always a great day in the gardens when People with Purpose come with their smiles, helpfulness, and enthusiasm.”

The Quad City Botanical Center is an urban oasis located in Rock Island, IL. As a public garden, the Center takes great pride in their mission of bringing people and plants together in fun and meaningful ways. Additionally, they take great pride in serving the community by educating them about the importance of plants and the impact they make in our everyday lives.

The Botanical Center has a wide range of plants from tropical plants found in their indoor tropical atrium called the Sun Garden to several native plants. They even have pollinator gardens, a conifer collection, and many more plants all located in their outdoor gardens. They also have a greenhouse that is home to a few of their many plant collections such as the cacti collection, carnivorous plant collection, and many more. They proudly serve the community as well as the many people who travel far and wide to visit the Quad Cities.

They are always looking for volunteers at the Botanical Center whether it is tending to the gardens, helping out during a field trip, or helping set up a big event, they appreciate any kind of help.
