National Volunteer Week Spotlight: Heidi Lubben

Heidi is one of Hand in Hand’s Chili Cook-Off committee members and is absolutely essential to making the Chili Cook-Off a success! She first got connected to our organization when she was asked to donate to the cook-off by a friend whose sons were participants at Hand in Hand. After attending the Chili Cook-Off for several years, she was then asked to be a committee member.

“Having an inside look at the hard work that all the employees of Hand in Hand do and that they are truly on a mission to better the lives of the families that participate, I couldn’t help but find a way to support this wonderful mission,” Heidi said.

Now heading into her 9th year being involved with Hand in Hand, she says she loves seeing kids accomplish things they didn’t think were possible.

“I remember the joy that is seen in the children’s eyes when they have accomplished something new or had an experience that they never thought that they could accomplish. The determination to overcome what is perceived to be an obstacle,” said Heidi.

She also enjoys seeing the months of hard work from the whole committee and staff pay off after a Chili Cook-Off and that everyone is passionate about the mission to provide inclusive programs to kids and adults.

“What I love most about Hand in Hand is that they are there to support the entire family. The services that are provided are there to make the entire family unit work more cohesively.”
