Parent Q&A: Our Hand in Hand Experience with Sloan and Sawyer
1. What initially drew you to explore Hand in Hand for your child's care needs?
In 2022, I had an acquaintance reach out to me and ask me if I knew about Hand in Hand. I had just had my daughter, Sawyer (2), who has Down Syndrome.
2. Could you share your experience during the decision-making process in choosing Hand in Hand? I knew I wanted to send my girls to Hand in Hand as soon as I toured the facility. It is a beautiful facility, and I was sold on inclusion for ALL abilities. I stayed home with my daughter for a year and the thought of someone else watching her was gut wrenching but I felt safe knowing she would be in good hands with individuals who foster the all-inclusive environment.
3. What specific aspects of Hand in Hand's programs or services stood out to you as a parent?
The all-inclusive environment was very important to me. I never wanted to feel like my daughter was a burden to anyone and every other place I looked at didn’t seem to have much experience with special needs children.
4. How has Hand in Hand supported your family's unique needs and requirements?
The teachers at Hand in Hand are hands down the most genuine and amazing people. I have high expectations because I care so deeply about my kids and they never make me feel like I am asking too much. They handle my strong personality with grace and I appreciate that. Anytime I have a request for my daughters, they always are more than willing to accommodate.
5. Can you describe any positive experiences or interactions you've had with the staff at Hand in Hand?
There are so many positive experiences, but my favorite is seeing my kids happily go into the arms of their teachers. When I go to work it is nice to know that my kids enjoy being at Hand in Hand.
6. In what ways do you feel Hand in Hand fosters an inclusive and supportive environment for children of all abilities?
You can walk in the door at any given time and know that they support an all inclusive environment. One thing that sticks out is when Sawyer transitioned to the toddler room (which gave me immense anxiety) and I received a picture one day of her in a wagon and all her friends walking with her and pulling the wagon. The weight off my chest lifted, knowing that she is INCLUDED in her classroom.
7. Have you noticed any significant improvements or changes in your child since enrolling them at Hand in Hand?
Both of my girls have learned many things with their time at Hand in Hand. Nothing specific sticks out but they have grown so much in everything since attending.
8. How has Hand in Hand's approach impacted your family's daily life or routines? Without Hand in Hand, I am not sure if I would’ve ever gone back to work. My girls love going there, the communication is great and I feel at ease leaving them for the day to go to work.
9. What advice would you give to other parents considering Hand in Hand for their child's care? If you are looking for a facility that supports you and your family, Hand and Hand is the place. The interactions everyday are genuine and it feels comfortable for both you and your children.
10. Is there anything else you'd like to share about your experience with Hand in Hand that you think would be valuable for others to know?
I am very appreciative, blessed, and thankful that I found Hand in Hand. It is the perfect place for children to learn and grow!
